The veteran tight end scored his first touchdown with his new team Sunday to help the Giants end a four-game losing streak with a 14-7 win over the Washington Commanders.
And these were the kind of numbers — seven catches for 98 yards and a touchdown — that so many thought the 6-foot-6, 238-pound tight end would produce.on the final play of the Giants’ Week 6 loss to the Buffalo Bills, Waller pulled in the first touchdown in his team’s desperately needed 14-7 win over the Washington Commanders Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium.
It was an interesting sequence of events that led to Waller’s 15-yard catch. The play before ended with the Commanders stopping Tyrod Taylor two yards short of the goal line on a third-down scramble play. Giants left tackle Justin Pugh was flagged for holding on the play, but instead of forcing Giants coach Brian Daboll to make a fourth-down decision, Washington elected to accept the penalty.
“You see that look at the line and I was like, ‘OK.’ You kind of knew what time it was with that non-verbal we had there,” Waller said. Taylor was able to do that Sunday as four of Waller’s seven catches went for first downs and five accounted for more than 10 yards. It was the second time this week that Waller got to have fun at a sporting event. On Wednesday, he was able to attend Game 4 of the WNBA championship at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.“That’s a pretty good week,” Waller said. “As soon as my wife gets here, it will get even better.”
