Thirty years ago, the movie Gettysburg was released, and News 8 was there during some of the filming in Gettysburg and the premiere.On Friday, some of the cast marked the anniversary with an event in Gettysburg.“The first time I came, I was 7 years old, and I remember playing at devil's den,” said actor Tom Berenger.For Berenger, Gettysburg has always been a special place. He relished his role as General James Longstreet in the film.Returning 30 years later is bittersweet, he said.
“I think we made such a sparkling film of it to tell the story — this vast story — in very personal and wonderful ways,” said actor Stephen Lang. Tourists continue to visit the battlefield, hoping to see in person what they first saw on film.“The significance, the importance, the relevance of this place to the United States of America actually never diminishes,” Lang said. Many who took part cherish the thought they helped to make history.
