BERLIN—In a world rife with division, many people who travel to Germany agree on at least one thing: Traditional German pillows are too big, too square and too soft.
When Linda O’Grady, an Irish writer, moved to Berlin, she was puzzled by the pillows—“giant marshmallows,” she calls them—that took up nearly half a bed’s length but offered little support for her head or neck, no matter how she fluffed them.
