As Jim Jordan is dropped as House speaker nominee, Republican Georgia Rep. Austin Scott is making another go at the seat.
by BRANDON MCGOUIRK | WGXA News and The National DeskThe congressman announced the news in a post to X, formerly known as Twitter, on Friday.
"If we are going to be the majority we need to act like the majority, and that means we have to do the right things the right way," he said. "I supported and voted for Rep. Jim Jordan to be the Speaker of the House. Now that he has withdrawn I am running again to be the Speaker of the House." This is Scott's second bid for the speaker seat since his loss to Jordan in a second round of voting earlier this month."We need to come together and figure out who our speaker is going to be," Jordan said in a brief speech, adding that he will support the next nominee. "I'm going to work as hard as I can to help that individual so we can help the American people."
Democrats nominated House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. Jordan garnered 194 votes, while Jeffries got 210. Majority Leader Steve Scalise said they're going “come back and start over” on Monday. Now, the House is back at square one 17 days after the ousting of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
