Before meeting Ann, she had a passionate relationship with Mariana Belcombe, the daughter of a doctor who specialised in the mentally ill. Ann Walker was the daughter of a wealthy family, who owned the fancy Crow Nest estate and ran a worsted mill. In actuality, the pair were blessed during a Holy Communion at York's Holy Trinity Church, as homosexual marriages were illegal, and officially remained so until 2013. Following their de facto marriage, Ann moved into Anne's Shibden Hall estate and used her family's funds in order to renovate what she considered her marital home. They would later travel the world together.
