Dauphin County voters headed to the polls Tuesday to vote for county commissioners, county row offices, judge of the Court of Common Pleas, magisterial district judges, township supervisors, borough council members and more.Attorneys Courtney Powell, a Republican and La Tasha Williams, a Democrat are seeking election to the seat vacated by the 2022 retirement of Judge Richard Lewis. Williams, a Susquehanna Township commissioner, ran unsuccessfully for judge in Dauphin County two years ago.
The Democratic Party has held a small voter registration edge in Dauphin County for 15 years. And while Democratic presidential, senate and gubernatorial candidates have garnered the most votes in Dauphin County in recent elections, Republicans hold a 2-1 county commissioner majority and Democrats have been unable to win any of the county row seats.
In the county commissioners’ race, Democrats Justin Douglas and George Hartwick are running against Chad Saylor, and Mike Pries. Voters at the polls were able to vote for two candidates for commissioner on Tuesday. However, the top three candidates will each win a seat, which guarantees that each party will have at least one commissioner. Hartwick was first elected as a commissioner in 2004. Pries was appointed as a county commissioner in 2010 and is vying for a full term for the fourth time.
