A garbage truck driver died Friday afternoon after he was involved in a crash on the Garden State Parkway, police said.
The driver, 56-year-old Bayville resident David Mello, Jr., was traveling south on the highway near Exit 82 in Toms River when his Peterbilt 320 garbage truck ran off the road to the right and hit multiple trees,It was unclear what caused Mello to leave the road as the crash remained under investigation.
