Hyndburn is to freeze the price of cremations and burials for the coming year to ease the cost of living crisis for residents
An East Lancashire local authority is to freeze the price of cremations and burials for the coming year to ease the cost of living crisis for residents.
Neighbouring Blackburn with Darwen Council will increase its burial charges by 7.5 per cent and cremation fees by 10 per cent from November 1. Hyndburn has also opened its discretionary energy rebate fund to help hard-up residents with the rise in gas and electricity bills.
“I am very pleased that Hyndburn Council can commit to this, and it is due to the exceptional work over many years from finance officers who have worked to ensure we are equipped and in a healthy financial position. “If the energy crisis continues, then next financial year the council will utilise reserves to ensure increased costs do not fall to residents.
