“This career criminal has had enough chances and is not going to turn his life around,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “It’s time to lock him up and throw the keys away.”

During a traffic stop for a headlight violation, Flagler deputies seized 219 grams of fentanyl and 533 grams of marijuana.

They arrested Adrian Rivers, 52, after they say they found the drugs in his backpack. The deputy smelled marijuana in the vehicle while speaking to the driver during the traffic stop. Rivers was the passenger. During the investigation, deputies determined Rivers was a fugitive with two active warrants for violation of probation for cocaine possession out of Volusia County and a writ of bodily attachment in Orange County.

Rivers faces charges of felony trafficking in fentanyl, felony possession of marijuana with intent to sell and violation of probation. This is Rivers’ first arrest in Flagler County, but his criminal history in Florida dates back to 1988. He’s been sentenced to prison seven different times between then and 2016, mainly for crimes committed in Orange County, but he’s also served time for crimes committed in Duval and Volusia counties. Among the crimes he’s been sentenced for includes grand theft auto, forgery, selling cocaine, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, burglary and fleeing and eluding law enforcement.
