The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office and the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center on Dec. 8 will host the 12th annual blood drive in memory of Deputy John Norsworthy, who was killed in a car accident in 2010.The public is invited to donate blood on Thursday, Dec. 8, in Richmond through a drive held annually in honor of a Fort Bend County Sheriff's deputy who was fatally injured in a car accident while on duty.

Hosted by the sheriff’s office and the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, this event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 a.m in Patton Hall at the Gus George Law Enforcement Academy, 1521 Eugene Heimann Circle. This is the 12th annual blood drive in memory of Sheriff’s Deputy John Norsworthy, who was injured in an accident while on duty on Dec. 27, 2010 and died eight days later.

Norsworthy, 39, received more than 48 units of blood after the accident. In the days that followed his death, Fort Bend county residents and employees came together to give more than 660 units of blood in his honor, starting what would become the annual Norsworthy blood drive.Norsworthy was survived by his wife, Melissa, and two then-teenaged children.

Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good general health. Individuals who are 16 years old who weigh at least 122 pounds, are in good general health and have their parents' consent also may donate. The donation process takes about one hour.
