Trace McSorley is entering his fifth year in the NFL after starring at Penn State.

It looked like McSorley would have a chance to thrive in New England working with offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien. Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe were established as the starter and backup, respectively. But undrafted Louisville star Malik Cunningham has made an impression this offseason.

McSorley was and still is a folk hero after helping lead Penn State from mediocrity back to the national conversation. The Big Ten championship game MVP won 31 games as a three-year starter, cementing his legacy at Penn State. McSorley has played in nine NFL games with one start, completing 48 of 93 passes for 502 yards with one touchdown and five interceptions.
