Alaska will soon have a new state education commissioner: Deena Bishop. Bishop previously worked as the superintendent of the Anchorage School District, stepping down from the job last summer.

The board on Wednesday unanimously approved Bishop, who previously served as the superintendent of the Anchorage and Matanuska-Susitna school districts.
