These earbuds nail the price, design and features departments.
It’s not just a feature on a piece of paper to beat rivals, ANC on the Galaxy Buds 2 does a decent job. Persistent, low-frequency sounds are blocked and I couldn’t hear my partner watching TV at a lower volume, especially if I had some music playing. It managed to block enough of the screeching sounds of the London Underground without me needing to up volume into red.
It doesn’t repel environmental noise like the AirPods Pro or Galaxy Buds Pro, but combined with music it’s effective enough to immerse you in your content. The smaller design doesn’t quite hit the passive noise cancellation levels of the Jabra Elite 3 , but it does mean they don’t protrude out of your ears and therefore provide a more stable fit. That low-protrusion also means there’s less wind interference when on phone calls.
The most important thing is how the buds sound. The audio experience is aided by a solid fit and decent ANC, but in terms of output, these sound nice for their price. In my review I noted that they don’t have the punch or richness of Samsung’s Galaxy Buds Pro, which is to be expected considering the cost difference. But they do perform well, as I explained.
“But these do sound good. Up against the Pixel Buds 2020, which launched at a higher price, the Buds 2 produce a more dynamic and satisfying sound. In tracks like Dua Lipa’s Break My Heart, the Buds 2 deliver better bass performance than the Pixel Buds, but Lipa’s vocals come through clearer on the Google headphones and the elements are more distinguishable.” The equalizer settings also means you can tweak the audio to better fit whatever you’re listening to.
