Professor Mike Berry compared the cases of killers Lucy Letby and Beverley Allitt, known as the 'Angel of Death'.
There are strong similarities between killer nurses Lucy Letby and Beverley Allitt, a forensic psychologist had claimed. Letby, 33, was convicted of murdering seven innocent infants in her care yesterday.
And now Professor Mike Berry, of Liverpool’s John Moores University, has likened her evil crimes to those of Allitt, 54, who was dubbed the 'Angel of Death. The 54-year-old was given a life sentence in 1991 after murdering four kids at Grantham Hospital, Lincolnshire, and currently remains in Rampton Secure Hospital in Nottingham, reports The Mirror.
The professor also believes that both could have Munchausen by proxy - a condition in which a carer may harm a person in their care to get attention. He continued: “Why did they do it? Possibly it is to be the centre of attention or to attract the attention of a particular person. Mr Berry says there is no obvious proof that Letby suffers from mental illness but it is possible she might have Borderline Personality Disorder, where people suffer from emotional instability, disturbed patterns of thinking or perception, impulsive behaviour and intense but unstable relationships with others. “Did her drawings and statements found in her home indicate her awareness of her guilt or just fantasising?” he said.
