The club has experienced a 'massive loss in revenue' as a result of closing
The director of a football club in Daventry says he has been left "frustrated" after it was forced to postpone a match and close over the Easter bank holiday after a number of travellers pitched up in the car park. The Daventry Town FC clubhouse lost around £4,500 in revenue and the adjoining foodbank was also forced to close after between 10 and 12 caravans set up camp.
The gate to the clubhouse car park on Browns Road had been left open as the club bar was open, but Mr Porter said the barrier to the bowls club had been broken, giving six caravans access. "We still had around 20 people in the bar, which started to cause a flashpoint and one or two of them went out to have their say," he added.
Daventry Town FC announced that the clubhouse and community hub, which houses the foodbank which around 17 families depend on, would be closed on Sunday morning. The post said: "This is the interests of both the the health and safety of our staff and customers." "This in anywhere between £600-£1,000 in on-the-gate money, plus secondary spend inside the ground. We also closed on the Sunday where takings are normally around £1,000. In all, we lost around £4,000-£4,500."
