THE FOOTBALL Black List celebration returns as an in-person event in London this week, making a first ever appearance at Battersea Arts Centre on March 22.A fantastic night is in store with black excellence being celebrated from across the football industry.
When you sat down with Rodney Hinds and mapped out your vision, did you imagine it would become what it is today?. That was everything for me, to pull this initiative together and have it printed in the leading newspaper from the black community was a pinch myself moment, and to do that with Rodney was really special. We’ve been on a journey with it.
We’ve created something that’s really unique and has provided football an entry point into understanding black communities and discussing the sensitive issues around under representationThe support from the football industry and media has been sensational. We’ve got to a place where mainstream football supporters are engaging with the Football Black List and senior leaders across the game, as well as people within our community, are looking out for this event as an annual event.
When I knocked on the door of Rodney Hinds with this idea, he made a decision that was positive, in my case, in terms of the enthusiasm for the Football Black List. It’s about someone taking a risk or taking a chance on you and giving you an opportunity.The VoiceThis list should always be infirst, this belongs to the black community first and foremost, as well as the football industry.
“It’s always fun. Lots of logistical things, just making sure that the music’s right, the atmosphere is going to be right, the food and making sure that all of the right people are there in the room. However, to go to the Battersea Arts Centre, is going to take everything to another level, and to be partnered with the Premier League, have the Premier League trophy back so that all of our attendees can take pictures and see it in real life.
