According to officials, this year's flu shot is 'not a very good match' for the dominant flu strain, which is more likely to affect children and younger adults.
The overall hospitalization rate was highest for people 65 or older , followed by children younger than 5 and those 50 to 64 years old .
During the first week of this year, the CDC received reports of five flu-associated deaths of children. Three of those were linked to influenza B viruses, and two were related to influenza A.
