Sgt Graham Saville was described as 'caring, compassionate, strong, determined' and 'everything you want in an officer'
Tributes have poured in for a hero police officer who died five days after he was hit by a train while helping a distressed man.
Nottinghamshire Police confirmed the "hugely respected and popular" officer died on Tuesday surrounded by his heartbroken family. Flags at the force HQ have been lowered to half-mast while floral tributes were laid outside Newark Police station where he worked as a response officer.Tributes have been paid to Sgt Saville, who was the uncle of Nottingham Forest footballer Joe Worrall.
“Our hearts and deepest condolences go out to his family and we will do everything we can to support them through this unimaginably devastating time. It is impossible to put into words how devastating this news is for everyone who loved and respected Graham. “I would also like to pay tribute to the officers who attended the scene, some of whom provided immediate medical assistance while the ambulance was on its way. This was a deeply traumatic incident for those officers and we have a dedicated team providing support to them.
