The fire service attended 71 incidents in just 24 hours on Tuesday
Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service attended 71 incidents in just 24 hours yesterday, the hottest day ever recorded in Northamptonshire. This is almost six times the average number the service would deal with on a summer day.
Northamptonshire saw its hottest temperature ever recorded yesterday, with Pitsford Weather Station recording a maximum air temperature of 40.2C. The village near Northampton was the second hottest place in the UK, alongside Heathrow, with Coningsby taking the record with 40.3C.NFRS said on Twitter that yesterday was only the second time in over a decade that they mobilised all available on-call firefighters.
A spokesperson for NFRS said: "Crews worked wonderfully at all these incidents to contain the spread of fire and prevent further risk." Eight of the fires were found to have been started deliberately after preliminary investigations, however. NFRS are also urging Northamptonshire residents to remain vigilant today. Despite the cooler weather, the dry conditions still mean that the risk of fire can be incredibly high.At NorthantsLive we're more than just news.
