🇫🇮 Finland’s right-wing opposition National Coalition Party has claimed victory over the Prime Minister Sanna Marin’s Social Democrats in a tightly fought general election sallyguyoncourt reports

Finland’s Prime Minister and Social Democrats leader Sanna Marin has conceded defeat to National Coalition Party leader Petteri Orpo after parliamentary elections. Finland’s right-wing opposition National Coalition Party has claimed victory over the Prime Minister Sanna Marin’s Social Democrats in aPetteri Orpo, leader of the National Coalition Party , made the claim on Sunday night after more than 97.7 per cent of the votes had been counted.

At that stage, Orpo told public broadcaster YLE: “My thought is that those are really heavy numbers on the screen … a strong mandate for our politics,”. It will be a bitter blow for 37-year-old Ms Marin, who was the world’s youngest prime minister when she took office in 2019.She has been hailed as a millennial role model, heading a coalition of five parties all led by women. She has also won praise for her nation’s response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, steering a course for Finland to join Nato.

Mr Orpo has said he is willing to negotiate with all groups to obtain a majority, while Ms Marin had said the Social Democrats would consider forming a coalition with the NCP but not the Finns Party which she has branded “openly racist”.
