Put any of those Super Bowl winners in their absolute primes in Prescott’s place, and the Cowboys might not even make it out of the first round. If as a group they share any attribute Prescott lacks, it’s not ability. Over his career, he has a higher quarterback rating than any of them. So even though the simplest way to look at the latest Cowboys meltdown is to say that Prescott just wasn’t good enough, it’s insanity to think he’s the biggest problem in an organization whose string of postseason failures now spans more than a quarter-century.
Coach Mike McCarthy isn’t likely to face any consequences, either. Say what you will about Jones, but he’s loyal to those who are loyal to him. After seven seasons, it’s safe to say Prescott never is going to become Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes. He’s not the type of guy who makes you a title contender simply by reporting to training camp. He needs a lot of help, as almost every quarterback in the league does.
