A fifth murder accused charged with gunning down Larkfield dad Neil Canney has been locked up today.
Brendan Balloch, 23, appeared from custody at Greenock Sheriff Court charged with shooting the 37-year-old in the head.
Other accused Keiran Meechan, 27, Jack Benson, 22, Dale Russell, 28, and Martin McCusker, 38, were remanded in custody following previous court appearances. Balloch, of Cockrobin Drive, Greenock, made no plea during a petition hearing in private this afternoon. He — along with Meechan, formerly of Wellington Street, Benson, of Crawford Street, Port Glasgow, and Russell and McCusker, both of Wishaw — are charged with, while acting with others, discharging a firearm at Mr Canney, shooting him in the head and murdering him.He was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where he was pronounced deceased a short time after arrival there.
Sheriff Michael Higgins continued Balloch's matter for further examination and remanded him in custody.
