Braidy said she began baking to feel closer to her mum
Braidy Maloney, who lives in Garston, is the brains behind Five Cake Shop - a bakery selling cakes, cupcakes and hot and cold drinks. The shop, which is set to open this weekend, however, is much more than that for Braidy as it acts as a tribute to her mum, Maureen, who baked wedding cakes before she died.The 44-year-old, who is originally from Huddersfield, told the ECHO: “My mum died in 2007 and after that, I wanted to feel closer to her.
“It actually turned out I’m the fifth generation to be in the baking business on my mum's side - hence the name Five Cake Shop.” The team believe the shop will be a well-received addition to the “up-and-coming” village of Garston. “It’s going to be a safe space where everyone is welcome. Places can feel quite clinical these days where they don’t have time to speak to customers, but I want this to be different and I never really stop talking anyway so I’m hoping people will feel at ease with that.”
