Some major news coming out of the US courts. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has been ordered to pay almost $300m for using tech to cover up the emissions produced by 100,000 diesel vehicles. More here:
According to court documents, FCA calibrated the vehicles’ emissions-control systems to produce less NOx emissions during the federal test procedures, without which they wouldn't have passed the tests.
FCA admitted that it did this so that the vehicles could maintain “features that would make them more attractive to consumers”, including with respect to fuel efficiency, service intervals and performance. As well as this, it must conduct a review of its compliance with the US Clean Air Act, which it must then submit to the authorities. It must then prepare at least two more follow-up reports.
