Female inmate found dead at Sant Rita Jail in Dublin
DUBLIN — A female inmate at the Santa Rita Jail died there on Monday, authorities said.
Authorities found the 39-year-old woman unresponsive in her cell during a general observation check about 7 p.m., according to a statement from Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Tya Modeste. A deputy called medics immediately and started life-saving measures. Medics declared the woman dead at 7:42 p.m. She was later publicly identified as Elizabeth Laurel; authorities did not specify her city of residence.
According to the sheriff’s office, no obvious signs of foul play or trauma were found. Modeste said the inmate was on withdrawal protocols for substances including opiates and alcohol. The woman had been booked into the jail on Saturday about 3:30 p.m. and cleared by the medical and mental health staff, Modeste said. San Leandro police had arrested her on a felony warrant for drug sales and additional charges for possession of controlled substances, Modeste said.
