The actors and 13 other parents are accused of conspiring to cheat on college entrance exams and bribe coaches so their children could gain admissions at University of Southern California, Georgetown and other selective schools.

By Karen Weintraub and Moriah Balingit Moriah Balingit Reporter covering national education issues Email Bio Follow April 3 at 7:00 AM BOSTON — Television stars Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin are to appear in federal court Wednesday with 13 other parents charged in an alleged multimillion-dollar bribery scheme to get their underqualified children admitted to selective schools, a scandal that rocked the higher-education world.

William “Rick” Singer, the corrupt college consultant whom prosecutors have cast as the mastermind of the scheme, pleaded guilty last month to racketeering, conspiracy, money laundering and obstruction of justice. The FBI made contact with him last year, and for months he cooperated with the investigation, recording conversations and gathering evidence against his wealthy clientele.Prosecutors say parents paid Singer to doctor test scores and bribe athletic coaches.
