The father of the Notting Hill Carnival murder victim has called for peace as serious violence in England reached its highest level in a year
.after travelling from Bristol with his younger sister."This must stop. Carrying a knife is the wrong thing to do. People should carry love in their heart instead of hatred," he said. His plea for young men and teenagers to put down knives comes during the worst surge of violence since last year - which was the worst on record.
He was stabbed though the artery in his leg at around 8pm on Ladbroke Grove on Monday August 29, after the festivities had wrapped up at the carnival. His father recalled the moment he found out his son had been attacked:"When I heard I was just hoping and praying he was going to be OK. You feel as though you don't want to go on."He was just a good kid, just came to carnival to enjoy the festival with his sister, but then his life was just taken away.
Asked if he worried it was a negative influence, Mr Patrick said:"I don't think it is a negative thing. Drill is a form of expression. It's what's in right now - it's what sells. The killing was a grim end to an otherwise successful event, at which two million people gathered to celebrate Caribbean culture.
Studying CCTV footage would be key to the investigation, according to Simon Harding, a former Met Police murder detective.
