A rat infestation at a Family Dollar warehouse in Arkansas has led to a recall of a wide range of products in six states, including Alabama.
The products were shipped from the facility from January 2021 to February 2022 to stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee.According to FDA officials, unsanitary conditions at the facility included “live rodents, dead rodents in various states of decay, rodent feces and urine, evidence of gnawing and nesting and rodent odors throughout the facility.
According to the FDA, Family Dollar is not aware of any consumer complaints or reports of illness related to this recall, however, there are numerous hazards associated with rodents, including the potential presence of Salmonella. Salmonella can cause serious illness for those with compromised immune systems, infants or the elderly. Healthy people infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
