Since the start of the Biden administration, nearly 200,000 deportation cases have been dropped by immigration judges.
This issue of missing NTAs is not unprecedented. A decade ago, such failures were rare. In 2014 there were just 217 instances of thrown-out cases for failure to file a timely NTA, but the situation has dramatically worsened in recent years. In 2019, the number of dismissed cases grew to 8,192. Then, in 2021, the number of dropped cases soared to 33,802, and in the following year, it ballooned to 79,592 cases, marking a significant increase compared to just 217 cases in 2014.
