The planned F1-backed all-female series can only be a positive thing for women in motorsport, reckons W Series driver and Aston Martin ambassador Jessica Hawkins.
It came just weeks afterdue to fundraising issues, instead turning its attention to securing back for the 2023 championship.
Although F1 is yet to formally confirm any details for its planned series, Hawkins said she “can only see it as a positive” as it gives more racing opportunities to women trying to get up the ladder. “It’s not who’s got the best championship, it’s how do we work together, because we’re all trying to achieve the same thing. I think it’s a positive thing.”Hawkins felt it was important for a greater focus on grassroots level to get more women racing, helping increase the pool of drivers and had a wider impact, similar to the England women’s football team that won the Euro 2022 championship.
