The action urged UK Government to stop the Rosebank oilfield as well as Barclays bank, claimed to be 'Europe's largest fossil fuel funder'.
Environmental activists staged a two-hour protest in Stirling’s city centre on Sunday, urging the public to remove their money from a major high street bank.
The groups said, in light of the war in the Middle East and Ukraine, “much thought” was given to this action, however the decision was made to go ahead due to the “seriousness and urgency of the climate crisis” In March at the launch of the UN’s Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, Secretary General Antonio Guterres said: “The climate time-bomb is ticking. Humanity is on thin ice – and that ice is melting fast.”
The protesters say Rosebank will produce 200 million tonnes of carbon dioxide - more CO2 than the combined emissions of all 28 low-income countries in the world including Uganda, Ethiopia and Mozambique - but the government claims this is consistent with staying within 1.5 degrees of global warming.
