Rochester, N.Y. — A new solo exhibition is now open at Frontispace Gallery, located on the bottom floor of the Rush Rhees Library https://www.library.rochester.
Annalisa Barron's solo exhibition, NO DISCERNIBLE ROSES, is on view at the University of Rochester's Frontispace Gallery. Oct. 21, 2023. was created by artist, curator, and University of Rochester educator, Annalisa Barron, who first came to Rochester to work on a sculpture for a film. The two-year project, which involved using optical glass from Kodak and Bausch and Lomb, led her to explore Rochester’s film history and how that history was interpreted by people who grew up here.
To have a sense of authorship while working on the project, she drew from her own idea of place, which took her back to the land of her family’s origins. Her research also led her to a 1988 book by art historian Nils Ellingsgard, the only person to ever study the different styles of Norwegian folk paintings.
