Emergency medicine experts commended the response time of medical personnel to the Allen outlet mall shooting after reviewing an Allen Fire Department report.

Dr. Alan Tyroch, who is also the trauma medical director at University Medical Center of El Paso, helped treat patients following the 2019 mass shooting at a Walmart in El Paso. He said communication during active-shooter situations is initially very confusing and disjointed. “You need to get them into the hospital where you can give them blood, stop the bleeding,” Tyroch said. “So, these are very quick scene times for the most part.”
“It’s important for EMS if they’re moving to where they have known victims to be doing so with police officers involved, because it’s entirely possible they will run into the shooter,” Mell said. “Both to put the event to rest — that is to arrest or detain or stop the shooter — but also for the safety for the crews and the patients, it’s important that those task forces be formed.”
