The Chargers’ doctor overseeing the treatment of quarterback Justin Herbert’s fractured rib cartilage is being sued by former quarterback Tyrod Taylor, who is seeking $5 million after suffering a punctured lung while being treated for a rib injury suffered in 2020, according to an ESPN report Sunday.
The suit also names the Orange County-based Newport Orthopedic Institute, where Gazzaniga is on staff.Gazzaniga accidentally punctured Taylor’s lung while attempting to administer a pain-killing injection for the quarterback’s fractured ribs before a Sept. 20, 2020 game against the Kansas City Chiefs, which was reported several days later by the Southern California News Group and other outlets.
