Former Celtic star Anthony Stokes has appeared in court wearing handcuffs after flying from Ireland to answer a warrant for his arrest almost a year after it was issued.
But he failed to appear last September and the court was told he had ignored calls from social workers trying to create background reports on him. Another arrest warrant was issued for him in 2021 after he also failed to appear to be sentenced. Hours after that warrant was taken, brazen Stokes posted a selfie on social media with the caption: “Any bad news?”
Top news stories today Yesterday, Sheriff Ross Macfarlane KC branded Stokes a potential “flight risk” but granted bail after hearing he had secured an address in Scotland. The striker will stay at a flat owned by Donald Hughes, father of businessman Barry Hughes.
