Ex-Astro Corbin Martin, part of Zack Greinke deal, looks to carve niche with Diamondbacks
Corbin Martin, traded by the Astros to the Diamondbacks in the 2019 deadline deal for Zack Greinke, has enjoyed a strong start to the season out of Arizona's bullpen.PHOENIX — Zack Greinke is gone, but a full assessment of his Astros tenure remains a few years away. Former general manager Jeff Luhnow parted withto acquire him from Arizona. Their development will render an overall verdict for one of the franchise’s most stunning trades.
Luhnow gave the Diamondbacks corner infielder Seth Beer and utilityman Josh Rojas along with pitchers Corbin Martin and J.B. Bukauskas at the 2019 trade deadline. Rojas has established himself as an everyday player and, for now, the best piece of the package. The universal designated hitter is a godsend for Beer, who started there Tuesday and belted a walk-off home run on opening day.
Still, Martin remains the deal’s biggest wild card. Many considered the Texas A&M product the centerpiece of Houston’s four-player package.
