Cities along I-35 corridor and the Texas Hill Country also kept adding people from 2020-2022.

San Antonio saw its population grow by 2.6 percent from 2020 to 2022, according to new Census Bureau data. That was the largest percentage increase among the 10 largest U.S. cities.Bucking the trend seen in many major U.S. cities, San Antonio kept on growing during the coronavirus pandemic, according to new data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

San Antonio's growth from 2020-2022 mirrored the 10 years prior to the pandemic, which brought steady population increases. From 2010 to 2020, San Antonio’s population increased by 8.4%, or about 112,000 people, rising from 1.33 million to 1.44 million, according to Census Bureau data. Since July 1, 2021, some of the most populous cities have recovered some of the population they lost. Dallas, for instance, has gained about 8,000 new residents between July 2021 and July 2022.

Potter, the state demographer, said San Antonio's steady economy has been a key factor in its population growth.
