ESPN’s Adam Schefter criticized for Dwayne Haskins tweet

with a five-year contract worth roughly $9 million a year.

Schefter deleted the original tweet and tweeted this in its place: “Dwayne Haskins, a standout at Ohio State before becoming Washington’s first-round pick and playing in Pittsburgh, died this morning when he got hit by a car in South Florida, per his agent Cedric Saunders. Haskins would have turned 25 years old on May 3.”

It’s been a rough year on Twitter for Schefter. After a grand jury decided not to indict DeShaun Watson on sexual assault charges, Schefter tweeted: “This is why Deshaun Watson, from the beginning, welcomed a police investigation: He felt he knew that the truth would come out. And today, a grand jury did not charge him on any of the criminal complaints.”

Critics immediately jumped on Schefter, pointing out that at least 22 women had accused Watson of sexual misconduct, arguing that a possible lack of evidence and the grand jury’s decision didn’t absolve Watson legally, morally or ethically. Schefter later apologized for the “poorly worded” tweet: “This was a poorly worded tweet that deserves a proper response. It was intended to provide insight into the strategy of Watson’s legal team from its POV. I should have been clearer. As legal experts have explained, a lack of an indictment alone does not mean someone is innocent.”
