Texas on Sunday set what could be the first of several new records for power demand this summer as officials predicted that temperatures would remain above normal across most of the state for several months.
Tim Kady, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Houston-Galveston branch, said the high pressure ridge that created hot temperatures last week is forecast to stay parked over the region through this coming weekend. He said there will be a slight reprieve Tuesday and Wednesday, with temperatures reaching into the mid-90s.
Forecasters with the U.S. Climate Prediction Center said above-average temperatures could remain in Texas through October.
