England fans make 4,300 mile trip from Lancashire and 'can't find place to drink'
England fans from Lancashire have arrived into Qatar for the country's first match in the World Cup - but have been left struggling to find somewhere to drink.
The Three Lions will open their group B campaign against Iran this afternoon with almost 2,400 Three Lions fans applying for tickets via the England Supporters’ Travel Club. Their ranks are expected to be swelled by fans in the region, with shuttle flights from Dubai and taxi trips from Saudi Arabia among the options for those heading to the tournament.
Maxi Sterritt, 63, also from Preston, said: “So far so good, they’re very helpful, the only thing is finding somewhere for a drink, we’re struggling for that.” England will not wear an anti-discrimination armband in their World Cup match on Monday after FIFA threatened them with sporting sanctions. A joint statement from seven European nations who had signed up to the One Love campaign – which included England and Wales – confirmed the armbands will no longer be worn.
