Emma is taking on the hike in memory of her partner Heather who passed away earlier this year from an aggressive form of breast cancer.

This was despite the disease’s progression being slowed by an experimental drug. For eight months the tumours shrank, and the spread slowed but ultimately the cancer stopped responding.
“Her GP referred her for a hospital appointment as a precaution; the appointment involved a mammogram, a biopsy, and an ultrasound. She had an ultrasound because the tumour wasn’t showing on the initial mammogram scan, the biopsy established if it was cancerous and, if so, what type of cancer it was, she found out on the day she had breast cancer and that it had spread to her lymph nodes. We were in total shock.
Emma continued: “Once we knew the cancer had spread there were some difficult conversations that needed to happen and having Lynn on hand to offer advice and support was invaluable. I found it hard at first to talk to Lynn about how I was feeling as I didn’t want to overstep with her relationship with Heather, I knew Heather appreciated the emotional and practical support Lynn was giving.
