Governor Josh Shapiro has officially declared the incident a disaster after a tanker carrying 8,500 gallons of gasoline exploded under on I-95 on-ramp, destroying part of the highway.
Elected officials toured the site of the collapse of the northbound lanes of I-95 at Cottman Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia on Monday, providing some new details on what caused incident that has now officially been declared a disaster.
As detailed by law enforcement officials on Monday, the fire that cause the collapse of a section of I-95 was started when a tanker truck exiting the highway onto Cottman Avenue, lost control while navigating a turn at the end of the exit. Officials said that they believe the vehicle -- a tanker carrying about 8,500 gallons of gasoline -- turned onto its side before it ruptured and, eventually, exploded.Get Philly local news, weather forecasts, sports and entertainment stories to your inbox.On Monday morning, Gov.
