The South San Antonio ISD school board finally had a quorum on July 26 when it appointed two new board members. A week later, it named interim superintendent Henry Yzaguirre the lone finalist for superintendent. All welcome changes, if the quorum holds.It’s difficult to imagine another school board as ineffective as the one at South San Independent School District.
It can’t come soon enough. What an embarrassment when too few trustees showed up — virtually or in person — to meetings in July, causing two to be canceled for a lack of quorum and delaying the board’s important work., the board appointed two replacements for trustees who recently resigned, Connie Prado and Gilbert Rodriguez. But as the agenda item to appoint Prado’s replacement was read, Rodriguez walked out without saying a word.On ExpressNews.com:It didn’t end there.
The district’s legal counsel determined that since Rodriguez was still in the room, the board had a quorum. Saavedra hasn’t heard back from TEA, but we hope it agrees with South San’s legal counsel. The alternative — to void all board actions following Rodriguez’s walkout — would set the board back.
