Decenas de millones de estadounidenses tendrán asientos en primera fila para el inusual eclipse de “anillo de fuego” del Sol.
El llamado eclipse anular solar oscurecerá brevemente los cielos del oeste de Estados Unidos y de América Central y del Sur. Cuando la Luna se alinee con precisión entre la Tierra y el Sol, borrará todo excepto el borde exterior del Sol. Un borde brillante y resplandeciente aparecerá alrededor de la Luna durante cinco minutos, asombrando a los observadores del cielo a lo largo de un estrecho camino que se extiende desde Oregon hasta Brasil.
Culminará en el anillo de fuego poco más de una hora después. Desde Oregon, el eclipse se dirigirá hacia abajo a través de Nevada, Utah, Nuevo México y Texas, abarcando franjas de Idaho, California, Arizona y Colorado, para después salir al Golfo de México en Corpus Christi. El halo llameante tardará menos de una hora en atravesar Estados Unidos.
