Kimberly Standen filmed the escapade while waiting for a flight home from Mallorca
A frustrated easyJet traveller was filmed destroying his own luggage in a bid to avoid paying excess baggage fees - tearing pieces off his suitcase to ensure it fitted the airline's bag check frame. In the viral clip the man can be seen ripping the wheels and handle off his case in Palma airport, Mallorca, after being unable to fit the bag into the airline's small cabin bag measuring frame.
After a moment of struggle, the easyJet customer is eventually able to tear off the wheels on his suitcase and successfully squeeze his bag into the free luggage allowance slot. As the chaotic scene takes place in front of the airline's boarding desk, other passengers waiting to board their flight can be seen watching in shock at the man's drastic measures to avoid a luggage charge.
"He was bashing the bag on the floor trying to snap off the wheels. I only managed to film the end of it but before this he had been kicking it, throwing it about, smashing the wheels on the floor and because airports have stone floors the noise just echoes. Kimberly, a logistics administrator, said: "I don't know the man's financial situation and he may have just been annoyed and out of principle wasn't going to pay [for a bigger bag]. What I do know is that when you book a flight [with easyJet] you know what luggage you pay for.
