As Michelle Collins makes her triumphant return to EastEnders after 25 years away, we take a closer look at the talented actress' life off-screen including her love life
25 years after last appearing on our screens as EastEnders icon Cindy Beale, actress Michelle Collins recently delighted fans with the news of her return to the long running BBC soap.
Well known for her kind heart and friendly demeanour, Michelle is a far cry from Cindy’s cold and ruthless attitude - which makes her skill at bringing the Walford baddie to life all the more impressive.Early Life Born Michelle Danielle Collins on 28th May 1962, Michelle first started her life in Hackney, East London before later moving to Highbury alongside her mum and older sister Vicki.
However while her acting was no doubt impressive, it was actually the star’s voice that struck a chord with 70’s band Squeeze. After appearing in their 1978 music video, Cool for Cats, she toured with the band for around 18 months, which saw her rub shoulders with artists such as Marc Almond, Level 42, Altered Images and Kid Creole and the Coconuts.
Despite only being signed on to the show for a very limited run, Michelle managed to captivate the audience in such a small timeframe that her role as Cindy Beale was soon extended - leading the star to remain as a firm favourite on the show for over a decade in total before her exit in 1998. She was also embroiled in a deadly storyline in which her on-screen ex-husband Karl burnt down the pub, a tragedy which actually claimed the life of Sunita Alahan. Yet despite the string of memorable and often dramatic plot twists and turns, Michelle felt her character was underutilised and announced her departure from the soap in 2014, just three years after taking on the role.
