The Work and Pensions Committee was hearing evidence following a report by the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman saying women should get payouts
The levels of compensation suggested for women affected by the way state pension changes were communicated are “on the low side”, a committee of MPs has been told. The Work and Pensions Committee was hearing evidence following a report by the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman in March.
The ombudsman’s report suggested that compensation at level four, ranging between £1,000 and £2,950, could be appropriate for each of those affected. “They’ve taken, again, quite some time to consider the report once it’s been published, and it does seem to us that they are playing for time and hoping to kick it into the long grass.”
“So I think the apology from the current administration will be quite important. It needs to be genuine. It needs to acknowledge that we’ve endured seven years of DWP denial currently about something which was not our fault. It shouldn’t criticise the women for making decisions in the absence of correct information.”
