Thousands will be impacted by the change
Claimants of Personal Independence Payments will notice a big change starting next month. The shake-up - which is is part a new "light-touch" PIP review from August, is designed to make it easier to renew their claims.
A new shorter PIP renewal form will be used and a face-to-face health assessment won't be required unless a person's medical condition has changed.The Department for Work and Pensions said its light touch process "will complement our policy of regular reviews, which are designed so that payments accurately match the current needs of people claiming PIP".
"Award rates and their durations are set on an individual basis, based on the claimant's needs and the likelihood of those needs changing: durations can vary from nine months to an ongoing award. What is PIP? PIP is a benefit which is gradually replacing DLA. If you need extra help because of an illness, disability or mental health condition you could be eligible for PIP. You will be assessed by a health professional to work out the level of help you can get and your rate will be reviewed to make sure you are getting the right support.
