New claims for PIP currently take an average of 13 weeks to process from point of application to decision letter.
The Department for Work and Pensions recently announced people in England, Wales and Northern Ireland will be able to apply for Personal Independence Payment entirely online from next year. New claims for PIP have been replaced in Scotland by Adult Disability Payment and are no longer processed by the DWP - if someone does apply for PIP it will be passed to Social Security Scotland and a new claim will need to be completed.
New PIP claims are currently taking 13 weeks from initial submission to award decision letters being sent out. He added claimants can receive third-party assistance to support them in using the online service as long as the claimant is the one making the claim. “We aim to make the online service available across England, Wales and Northern Ireland in 2024 for those who choose to use it.”
