Party figures Gary Middleton and Gregory Campbell met the new US Consul General for Northern Ireland
The DUP's position on the return of Stormont and post-Brexit trading arrangements was put to the new US Consul General for Northern Ireland during a meeting in Derry.
During a visit to Derry this week, where he met with DUP figures Gregory Campbell and Gary Middleton, he was told the "key" to stable and lasting devolution is "restoring Northern Ireland’s place within the United Kingdom and the internal market". In a joint statement issued following their meeting with the US figure, the Foyle MLA and East Derry MP said: “Northern Ireland has strong historical and cultural links with the United States, and we value the ties binding our two nations.
The joint statement continued: "There has been support from the United States for Northern Ireland, and we hope they will recognise the need for a solution that provides the strong foundations needed to see the Assembly and Executive restored. Whilst progress has been made, the ball remains in the UK Government’s court to ensure they meet the commitments which they made.
